My center of gravity is all off. I was in a training class for work today, and it was down at the plant (that way we could learn in the classroom and then hands-on). Towards the end of the day, after I had been there for 9 hours (10 hours were scheduled), I was about to head back down to the floor for one last training bit. I made a pit-stop in the ladies room, as pregnant women tend to do.
Anyway, the floor near the sink must have had water on it, but I didn't see it. I took a HUGE tumble. It was slip, slide, slip, slide, BAM. I fell down onto my hands and knees. And I FELL. HARD. I didn't hit my belly (which is why I slammed so hard on my hands and knees, I think I was instinctively protecting my belly.
The first thing I did was call my doctor. She said that there is no reason to go to the hospital as long as there is no bleeding and there is still movement. Both of those things were in check, so that made me feel a bit better. The next thing was to report the fall to the safety officers and get the claims paperwork going.
I didn't make it back down to the floor, but it was just as well because I had to leave a tad early to make it to Prepared Childbirth Class.
So I drove up to class, which was really cool. Hubby-poo met me there (with a clean shirt for me, bless his heart, which is a different story).
Class was great! We learned a lot. It was taught by a labor and delivery nurse / lactation consultant at the hospital where we are delivering, so she had a LOT of insight to share. She shared a lot of specific information about the hospital (logistical stuff) as well as lots of ins and outs of the labor process. She was very big on reminding us that it was our labor, and they are there to support us. We will have our own nurse for the process, and she will be our go-to person.
We met some nice people, so we'll see if any real friendships form. Also, I got to ask the nurse about my fall. She poked around at my belly and asked a bunch of questions. She agreed that I didn't need to go in, which made me feel better about everything.

I seem to remember falling during my second trimester. I don't think there was a reason other than the fact that I was just off-balance. On some concrete. Bruised my hands and knees and was less worried than just pissed off at my clumsiness.
One thing I never counted on was how much those L&D nurses make or break your hospital experience. I adored all my nurses. Three a day for each Graham and I for three days, and we never met the same one twice! Keep in mind too that if you're not getting along with your nurse, you can request to get a change. Sometimes personalities just don't mesh!
