Hubby-poo and I spent the past few days "coming out", if you will. Our families and most of our friends know that we are pregnant. It was fun. Lots of hugs, lots of tears.
We started with my mom on Christmas Eve. I was nervous to tell her, because we didn't want her to tell Omar. But my fears were completely unfounded, as she was of course excited for us. She completely supported not telling Omar, since he can't keep a secret to save his life and we didn't want to spoil it for my in-laws (that internet is a dangerous thing, I tell you!).
Later that night we told Kristin and Jason - mostly because Kristin would be suspicious about me not drinking red wine with her.
In both cases, I started with something along the lines of, 'I have to tell you something...' Which, of course, prompted them both to guess that I was pregnant. I learned that a non-warning approach is a better way to go.
The biggest fun was telling my in-laws on Christmas morning. We did it with mugs that said things like 'Future Grandma', 'Future Uncle', etc. We had them all open them at the same time. I think my mother-in-law nearly had a heart attack. She just about fell on the floor, tears streaming from her eyes. My father-in-law even shed a few tears. It was a LOT of fun. Lots of hugs, lots of excitement, etc.
We spent Saturday calling friends and extended family who we wouldn't see. Of course, since I don't call people, my friends pretty much figured out why I was calling. Ross was sweet enough to remind me that he had 'inside information', as I took him and Blair through our 'trying time line' that was going to kickoff in October. But even without the inside scoop he would have guessed it.
Sunday we told Omar in the morning. That didn't go as badly as it could have, but it didn't exactly go well. Omar doesn't do well with change. Or babies. He likes being the baby in the family. Hopefully he comes around. Everybody making fun of him for trying to compete with a baby should hopefully make him realize how immature he is being. But then, if you know my brother, you know that this is no surprise.
Later that day we had a brunch with mostly my college friends (and some really awesome grad school friends who had a LONG drive with hyper children). I wore a T shirt that said "Future Mom" underneath a hoodie, so I unzipped it for people as they came in. The best reaction came from Jackie, who thought I was just wearing a sarcastic T shirt. I showed it to her and she was all, "nice..." I thought that was weird, so I pointed out that Hubby poo and I are, in fact, having a baby. To that she responded something like, "sh*t, you're serious?!" And then there were hugs and such. "Coming Out" was fun :-).
Of course, we're still not done. And we haven't come out at work yet, so if you work with us, SHHHH!!!!

11w6d - Lullaby Baby
I have started thinking about songs I want to learn, so I can sing them when Acorn is born. I'm thinking of popular rock songs primarily - not things like Rock-a-by Baby and whathaveyou. This is what I have so far:
- "Three Little Birds" by Bob Marley
- "Chiquitita" by Abba
- "Lullabye" by Billy Joel
- "I'll Stand by You" by The Pretenders
- "All Right for Now" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers
- "Wildflowers" by Tom Petty

10w4d – Ultrasound!
Last Thursday, Hubby-poo and I took a few hours off of work to do something very important for us and Acorn. We got an ultrasound! We got to see Acorn!!! We couldn’t *quite* hear the heartbeat, but we could see the sound pattern so we believed it was there. They measured the length and the estimated due date is July 7 or 8, which is consistent with my LNMP, so I don’t need to change anything in the iPhone app. Hubby-poo was great, and got super excited to see everything.
There was one problem, though. Not with Acorn. But with the doctor. The office was having ‘computer issues’, so they couldn’t access anybody’s stuff. The doctor apparently also had a delivery that morning. They were an HOUR behind and nobody called us to let us know! The doctor assured me that they typically call when they are running more than 30 minutes behind. While we were waiting I was sure that I was going to find somebody else after that appointment. In fact, I almost walked out (my desire for an ultrasound was stronger than my disdain for the delay – but not by much). Those who know me know how I am, and know how much I value time (my own and that of others – I hate to be kept waiting, and I hate to keep others waiting). But overall, I liked the doctor once I met her. It was too bad that we couldn’t stick around to ask all of our questions, but she offered that if we want to send our questions into the office she would answer them and get back to us. She’s also pretty no-nonsense. She tells it like it is – tells you what is okay, what isn’t, what you need, what you don’t, what is your choice, etc. Besides, the more I think about it, the more I need to cut them some slack. If they rely on their computer system then they are probably lost without it. Also, the doctor delivers babies. Babies show up whenever they want to show up, and take as much time to come out as they need. So my pre-natal appointments may get bumped around. She delivers her patients’ babies, so she needs to be there for them. I need to be flexible.
The worst part is that nobody asked us for the CD / Jump Drive when we got there. So when we were checking out we asked about getting the files and the nurses said we have to wait until next time to get them. At that point we’ll have an actual sonographer there, so we’ll have better pictures anyway. This was a first cut to make sure everything looked okay. So I don’t have digitals to put up here yet. But since nobody knows about this blog yet I guess that’s kind of okay :-P.

9w0d - Banana Peppers!!!
On Tuesday, while watching The Biggest Loser, some of the people were eating off of a Subway party platter. It was the situation where the sandwiches are made with only meat, and the veggies are on the side. So you customize your sandwich yourself. Now, I am not, nor have I ever been, a huge Subway fan. I ate a bunch of it my Weight Watcher days, but only because of the low point content. I never particularly loved the food.
Well, on Tuesday, I wanted it SO badly. But not because of the sandwiches. Oh no. I saw a big, ole container of banana peppers. And it just made my mouth WATER. I thought to myself that if I was there, I would have taken the entire container of pepper rings and put every single one of them onto my sandwich.
Of course, I kept this to myself because a banana pepper craving is CRAZY! But last night I couldn't contain myself. We were talking about what to make for dinner, and I said that the only thing I wanted in the whole world was a sandwich just full of banana peppers. Hubby-poo laughed at me a little bit, of course. But then he offered to go get my Subway. I declined - the whole no cold cut rule (especially pre-cut at dinner time, so they could have been sitting out ALL DAY). But I was tempted. It was cute that he offered.
It gets better. I got home from work today and Hubby-poo had a present for me. He gave me a gift bag with 4 fresh banana peppers in it! Now, I was craving the pickled variety, but it is totally the thought that counts. We (well, he) made tuna pasta salad for dinner, and I added banana peppers to my portion. It pretty much ruled. :-)
