Last Thursday, Hubby-poo and I took a few hours off of work to do something very important for us and Acorn. We got an ultrasound! We got to see Acorn!!! We couldn’t *quite* hear the heartbeat, but we could see the sound pattern so we believed it was there. They measured the length and the estimated due date is July 7 or 8, which is consistent with my LNMP, so I don’t need to change anything in the iPhone app. Hubby-poo was great, and got super excited to see everything.
There was one problem, though. Not with Acorn. But with the doctor. The office was having ‘computer issues’, so they couldn’t access anybody’s stuff. The doctor apparently also had a delivery that morning. They were an HOUR behind and nobody called us to let us know! The doctor assured me that they typically call when they are running more than 30 minutes behind. While we were waiting I was sure that I was going to find somebody else after that appointment. In fact, I almost walked out (my desire for an ultrasound was stronger than my disdain for the delay – but not by much). Those who know me know how I am, and know how much I value time (my own and that of others – I hate to be kept waiting, and I hate to keep others waiting). But overall, I liked the doctor once I met her. It was too bad that we couldn’t stick around to ask all of our questions, but she offered that if we want to send our questions into the office she would answer them and get back to us. She’s also pretty no-nonsense. She tells it like it is – tells you what is okay, what isn’t, what you need, what you don’t, what is your choice, etc. Besides, the more I think about it, the more I need to cut them some slack. If they rely on their computer system then they are probably lost without it. Also, the doctor delivers babies. Babies show up whenever they want to show up, and take as much time to come out as they need. So my pre-natal appointments may get bumped around. She delivers her patients’ babies, so she needs to be there for them. I need to be flexible.
The worst part is that nobody asked us for the CD / Jump Drive when we got there. So when we were checking out we asked about getting the files and the nurses said we have to wait until next time to get them. At that point we’ll have an actual sonographer there, so we’ll have better pictures anyway. This was a first cut to make sure everything looked okay. So I don’t have digitals to put up here yet. But since nobody knows about this blog yet I guess that’s kind of okay :-P.
