I have been working on J bird's ability to sit up from lying down. She doesn't quite have the ab strength, but I hold my hands out, she grabs my thumbs, and she can mostly pull herself up to sitting. I have to give a bit of a nudge, but she follows along. Then she chews on my thumb (with those two new teeth that have started to grow in).
Well, recently she has started to try to keep on going and pull herself up to standing. Again, I give her a nudge and she gets it started, but she always needed my help to seal the deal.
Until today, that is....
Now she can take my thumbs and just pull herself all the way up to standing. She doesn't even need a small nudge from me. She just grabs hold of my thumbs and pulls. And she is just SO proud of herself when she does it. She gets a HUGE smile on her face. It's SO freakin cute!
After standing for a bit she will then let go with her right hand. She's getting braver and braver! As we play on the floor I sometimes sit her in my lap (while I sit cross-legged, or with my legs out in a V). She has now started to try to stand up from that position. She usually winds up launching herself forward and accidentally winding in tummy time (which she still hates).
The good news is that she can't crawl yet, so it's not like she's crawling to the bookcase that we still haven't anchored to the wall and trying to pull up on that. Who knows if she will crawl, she might not. Like I said, she hates Hates HATES tummy time, so she may not hit that milestone until well after she's walking.
I don't remember if I told you she hates lying down now that she can sit (even on the changing table, her former favorite spot). Well, now that she can kind of stand she's not really too keen on sitting anymore. She wants to stand up a whole lot. It's cute, but man is it tiring! I can't believe how fast she's growing!
