Jocelyn's 2 Month Doctor's Appointment

Yeah, she's 10 weeks old. It was supposed to be last Friday, but with her cold I got nervous and wanted to wait a week. I am glad I did. She had enough discomfort going on.

She's doing great! She's 24" long (90th %ile), 13 pounds, 3 oz (50th %ile) and has a head circumference of 16.25" (90th %ile). So she will be tall, thin and brainy - like her dad (mom's only got 2/3).

The doctor was impressed with her head control and her ability to see and focus on an object. Everything was in good working order. Here skin color looks really good - we were commended for keeping her out of the sun (which is easy when it's 100+ F out - who wants to go out in that?). Her weight gain is right on track, and it's clear that she's a good eater. Since she's apparently very drooly, it appears that she's going to be an early teether. I am NOT looking forward to that (for her sake or my boobs').

Ugh... Mama is so sleep-deprived that I can't think of what else to tell. Other than that, the doctor just chatted with us. She gave some good ideas for upping my milk supply (and reminded me that if I need to supplement with the occasional serving of formula once I go back to work that it's okay, which I will hopefully not need to do, but does make me feel better). She also had some good suggestions for grandparent Christmas presents, and went on and on about how pretty my little bugaboo is (and she is, but I may be biased).

J money did NOT enjoy getting shots, though. She evidently impressed the nurses with her ability to scream. After her first one, she had an initial cry, then a pause while making the meltdown face, and then a HUGE WAIL. The next two were more of the same blood-curdling screaming. It was all I could do to not burst into tears! But once she was done I nursed her, and that seemed to calm her right down. She wasn't happy, but she relaxed. As impressed as the nurses were with her screaming, they were equally impressed with how quickly she calmed. And then fell asleep. And slept for a few hours. She's asleep again. And hopefully she sleeps it all off tonight.

Obviously your doctor knows best but I figured I would share other stories to confirm what she said.

I stopped pumping and only give formula while I work (which is obviously very different then your work situation) but it didn't effect my supply or Emily's eating at all.

My friend Chris who works full time did one formula bottle a day and the rest breastmilk because she just couldn't keep up and there were no negative effects from it either.

If I had worked full time pumping wouldn't have even been an option for me. My supply is fine but my pumping output is non existent.
