Hiding pregnancy is hard. I am not a big drinker, not by any means. But I do drink. Obviously I have stopped drinking with the pregnancy. Which means that the people I spend the most time with might notice that I am not drinking at all.
It would be fine, as it is pretty easy to make excuses for the most part (I'm on antibiotics / allergy medicine / etc., I have to get up early, I am trying to lose a few pounds, etc.). But this past weekend was my birthday, which meant that none of my regular excuses would work. In preparation for the fact that I wanted to be able to hide my drinking, I threw a party at home. That way nobody could go and just buy me shots. But people still expected some participation.
Luckily, I am a very creative person. I made a mocktail of flavored seltzer, a splash of cranberry juice and a lime. It was a pretty, pink drink with a bright green accent. Everybody thought it was a cocktail - I even had a few people comment on how fun it looked. Some asked me what was in it and asked me to make one for them. Of course, I told them there was vodka in it (and put vodka in the ones I made).
The other lucky thing is that I was really, really sleep-deprived. And when I get sleep-deprived, I get silly. Almost as though I am drunk. Hubby-poo told me that everybody thought I was tipsy. So it worked :-P.
Of course, in a bit over a month when we start telling people what's going on, they are going to be concerned that I got drunk on my birthday. I guess I will have to tell them about my acting skills.
