Donovan is 20 months today. I can't believe he is closer to 2 than he is to 1. My big boy has started his new daycare. It's a different set up - the baby rooms are 0-2, so he could theoretically be in the same room as a 6 week old baby. That seems odd. They group them by age, but we no longer get a nice price break for the higher ratio allowed for his age.
But he loves it. Sure, he still clings and cries at drop off. And is super happy to see us when we get him. But he has a good time. He is a friendly little guy, he plays with everybody. And they are impressed wtih his verbal skills. Every day, they tell me all about the words Donovan says. This, of course, is of no surprise, since he talks all the time and tries to say everything.
We moved to Wisconsin about a month ago. The first weekend we were here, we saw the Harley Davidson 110th anniversary party. There were bikes in every direction, as far as the eye could see. Donovan has become obsessed with motorcycles. It's to the point that Jocelyn suggested that we put a picture of a motorcycle in Donovan's new bedroom (which I think is a great idea - and we are in the right place to find a piece of motorcycle art!). Just the sound of a motor roaring in the distance is enough to get his attention - he immediately asks (and then excaims) 'Cycle? Cycle!" It's super cute.
He is a smarty pants. He just loves to build with blocks. He has a blast with his Duplos. He thinks they are awesome, and likes to build tall towers with flowers and animals on top. We have a farm set and a Disney set, so the creations are super adorable with Mickey and Goofy faces scattered among the blocks. When the tower falls down, he just rebuilds. It's no big deal.
Donovan is also finally starting to enjoy being read to. Until recently he either hated it or was completely indifferent to it. But now he brings me books and yells, "read!" And after the story is done, he might say, "Read 'gain?" It's cute.
That reminded me... I mentioned that Donovan tries saying all of the words he hears. But he doesn't always get them all right. He calls the elevator 'gator', which is super cute. And lotion is 'on-osh' most of the time. And Jocelyn is 'Donny' (although, he occasionally busts a 'do-ce-yin'). Bananas are still 'banie' and strawberries are still 'taw-bay'.
My boo is such a water baby. We did not bring the bath seat up here with us - we figured that it was big, clunky and, ultimately, unnecessary. We wanted to teach him to be comfortable bathing without a bath seat. It took a few tries, and a lot of bubbles, but now he requests bath time right after dinner, and likes to 'swim'. A few weeks ago we went to one of the beaches in Milwaukee. Since Lake Michigan was oddly warm, we decided to put our feet in. I didn't let him go at all, but every time he perceived that I let my guard down, he would try to take off into deeper waters. It was hilarious. He has no fear of water - which is bad, but also kind of good. I am excited for when he gets to swim at daycare. Anyway, about the lake, he splashed so much, and begged to swim so many times, that he would up having to ride home in no pants because he soaked them through with all of the splashing. It was really funny.
My doodle-poo loves shoes. LOVES them. He wears my shoes, Mike's shoes, Jocelyn's shoes... there is not much cuter than Donovan trying to walk around in my high heels. But the poor thing falls down a lot as it is, and he falls down even more when playing in too-big shoes. Silly boo!
