My giant two-month old

HA! I started this post on Tuesday, when Donovan actually turned 2 months old. I got as far as the title. Now it's Friday afternoon. Let's see how far I get :-P.

Anyway, I already shared my big boy's stats on Facebook, but he is a whopping 15 lbs. 4 oz. He is 24 3/4" long and his head circumference is 16.5". He's 95th percentile for height, 90th for the other two.

He is not a good shot taker. None of them are, of course, but he seems worse than Jocelyn was. He got all feverish and lethargic, and has been extra gassy / fussy since. Hopefully he gets past it soon. It probably doesn't help that he had a bit of a cold on Monday and was already sort of lethargic from that. So that's no fun :-(.

But enough about that nonsense. I want to talk about all of the AWESOMENESS that is Donovan! My big boy holds his head up so well. He is so strong! And he is getting really fun. The first few weeks are sort of a blur, of course, but newborns don't do anything anyway. Now he is starting to DO stuff. Not much, mind you, he is only two months. But he is making little noises. He coos, and says Ah, and Ca, and some other sounds. And he smiles! Oh, his lovely smiles. He does it all the time. It is SO FLIPPING CUTE! He also likes to make faces. He sticks his tongue out and flutters it around. He will do it spontaneously, as well as in response to our tongue sticking. LOVE IT!

Since he is such a champ with being in the stroller, I have started to take a Baby Boot Camp class. It's awesome. He sleeps the whole time, and I get a good workout in. And as I work out, it's obvious that I really need it! I knew I had gotten out of shape since starting to have kids, but I didn't realize the extent of it until I started trying to work out again. I have a LONG way to go before I am as fit as I was prior to having Jocelyn. And, let's be honest, it's not as though I was in awesome shape then. I was healthy, but I wasn't exactly ready to pose in a bikini on the cover in Shape or anything like that.

The only issue we are having right now (besides his soy and dairy intolerances) is his sleep. The shots he had seemed to have thrown off his sleep schedule. He slept quite a lot after his shots. Then he was up all night. And he has slept poorly every night and napped great every day since. I hate to wake him from his daytime naps. Besides, you can't really stop a baby from sleeping when they want to sleep anyway. Unfortunately, it's just as impossible to make a baby sleep when he doesn't want to.

I also still have not figured out the delicate art of diapering baby boys effectively. He still pees clear out the side of them! I point him down to try to prevent upward peeing. The dangerous time is when I'm nursing. I think it's because he's lying down on his side so gravity is helping him out. I don't really know if it's leaking out the top or side of the diaper. One thing is clear - we really need to go up a size (we're working through the last of our size 1's and have 4 packs of 2's waiting in the wings). That might help. Or I might consider trying out different brands. We shall see....

Oh well. He's a good boy. He's huge. He's a champ about travel and a good sport about being out all day. He has a wonderful, handsome smile and he just LOVES to make smiley faces at me. He lights up my world in so many little ways and so many big ways. So I'll take a few sleepless nights and wet laps if I need to. It's totally worth it!

What brand diapers are you using? We've tried Huggies and Pampers, and Joey leaked out of the Huggies constantly - only had 1 or 2 leaks with Pampers (and that was more due to the Vaseline spread on the inside of the diaper). I've got other friends with boys that have said the same thing. I haven't had to really pay any attention to how he's pointing, the Pampers get it all! You have vastly more baby experience than I do, but that's the one thing we've figured out so far :-)
