Poop talk

Despite calling him Hubby-poo, Mike and I don't often talk about poop. Or, at least we didn't, before Jocelyn came along. There was the occasional 'oh, that food did not agree with me' or 'man, I gotta get things moving' comment when things weren't running at optimum levels. But that was the extent of it. We also pretty much never talked about farts. Even if they are things done by everybody, some topics are just not for sharing.

But with a baby, you talk about poop a WHOLE lot. At the beginning, you're tracking diapers to make sure they are pooping enough. As the poop transitions from meconium to real poop, you talk about that. You talk about the color, texture, odor and amount of poop if it is different than the norm. And sometimes you express awe at the poop (that was the poopiest diaper I have ever seen). When you also have a particularly gassy baby, you also talk a whole lot about farts. Especially when said baby is colicky and you suspect that gas is one of the culprits. You praise the farts during the crying spells (and even the ones not associated with the crying, out of hope that they will prevent more severe crying later on). You rub their little bellies to try to get them to fart. And once they start farting, you wait until the spell seems to be safety over before attempting to change a diaper, which becomes a discussion point (do you think she's done? do you think there is more?). And, when it turns out that you are wrong, and they are not done with the farting / pooping, and that fact becomes revealed on the changing table without the protective diaper layer, you definitely talk about that (OMG, the poop is shooting across the room! HELP!).

I used to consider myself to be a decent conversationalist, and I always felt that I could either talk about or ask intelligent questions about a vast multitude of topics. Getting pregnant made me fairly boring. Now having a baby, I am SUPER boring. You know, unless you want to know all about poop. :-P.

LOL! Jim and I talked about poop during our fancy dinner out to celebrate our wedding anniversary when Julianne was almost 3mos old. Sexy.

Poop is still one of our big topics, but now it's "did she do it in the potty or her Pull Up?" in addition to the consistency of Campbell's poops, etc. Yay poop!
